Where it all began…
THE HANG began as a casual gathering of four Jesus-loving, artist friends in midtown, NYC in the fall of 2017. These get-togethers began to grow as word of mouth struck a chord throughout the city: the need for Christian community within the arts. Since that fall, THE HANG has outgrown any apartment gatherings and has become a fully functioning and ever-expanding ministry existing to support artists in NYC socially, professionally, and spiritually.
What THE HANG looks like now…
THE HANG supports our members through the three branches of our mission statement: social, professional, and spiritual. At the root of every hang is our desire to encourage one another and point each other toward Christ. This manifests itself in a couple of different ways. First and foremost, THE HANG provides community. In a transient city and industry, we are a group of believers that strives to be a consistent source of life-giving friendships. THE HANG meets twice a month, alternating weekdays to accommodate various schedules and lifestyles within the arts. These meetings, or “hangs,” will either include a spiritual message or professional development teaching.
Our spiritual hangs come with time to catch up and meet new people before hearing a word given by a member of our leadership team or guest speakers. Our professional hangs could involve a masterclass by a member of the entertainment community or a “Spotlight Conversation” – a discussion by an industry influencer or panel of influencers where our members are encouraged to glean wisdom and ask questions. All of these meetings involve discussions, Q&A’s, and incredible learning opportunities that aim to grow our people as artists and disciples.
